About Guernsey Island
Guernsey sits in the English Channel, located 27 miles west of the Normandy coast. Its capital, Saint Peter Port, serves as the territory's main seaport and functions primarily as a port of call on European cruises. The town unfolds steeply from the water, featuring cobbled lanes rising from a boat-filled harbour with the 800-year-old Castle Cornet standing above. Many street names still appear in French, preserving a legacy from the time when the island formed part of the Duchy of Normandy.

Shellfish is notably abundant, with freshly caught lobsters, crabs, and Guernsey scallops forming the basis of many dishes, while ormers, a specialty mollusc, are harvested during the wintertime. Traditional French patisserie is readily available, and velvety soft Guernsey ice cream makes a wonderful treat on a warm day. The Old Quarter features antique shops and locally crafted goods, including traditional Guernsey wool jumpers.
Wild plants flourish year-round in Guernsey's mild climate, and visitors immediately notice the overwhelmingly European feel of this picturesque port. The island is widely known for its scenic cliff walks, striking seascapes, offshore islands, and beautiful sandy beaches. A 20-minute ferry or boat ride beyond the port reaches Belvoir Bay or Shell Beach, providing quiet spots ideal for swimming and water sports.
